The highly prized component of coconut oil, the lauric acid, has antimicrobial properties, and as such, is used as a natural preservative and removed from the virgin oil.

This process gives the products a very long shelf life, and makes it an excellent carrier oil; blending well with other oils and ingredients.

Whilst virgin organic coconut oil is still one of favourite base ingredientrs, certain products benefit from the physical difference in fractionated coconut oil while others work well with classic virgin organic coconut oil.

We welcome any and all ingredient questions, or queries as to what product is right for your skin type, your children or your pets. And since using it: I’ve made the switch for good.

Why? Well, it’s kinda personal but definitely worth mentioning if I am to get my point across. So here goes…

Recently my sensitive, needy skin has developed an irritation - specifically, in my armpits. Women in general can be sensitive about their armpits – we don’t like them to be too sweaty or hairy and we definitely don’t want them to be red, scratchy or irritated! We like to be smooth, clean and refined, right?

So imagine my delight when my very own armpits decide to turn red, itchy and irritated. I cared for them personally all my life! I felt betrayed and, dare I say it: I felt ugly. I visited the Dr and was prescribed a little remedy to fix it up. Cool. But what about after that?

It was around this time my newCoconatural Natural Deodorant arrived - Right on time! Suddenly I was more aware than ever of the treatment of my precious armpits – and with this in mind I decided to switch from aerosol deodorant and trial only using Coconatural for one week.

Perfect. Within 5 days, my skin felt smoother and although I was still treating my other *ahem* concern, I totally noticed the difference. It was immediate. I have always struggled with razor rash and I noticed that this was calming down too. Although the packaging warns the product is targeted to anti-odour and not anti-perspirant, I actually noticed that I was less sweaty while I had it on.

Oh and I don’t smell. At all. Even on the muggiest Queensland Day. Even the muggiest.

It lasts all day long and even the next morning I have noticed there’s no B.O. Win!

Three weeks later and I have 100% made the switch to Coconatural’s Natural Deodorant. I even ceremoniously threw out my other deodorants. There was dancing and chanting… Ok that last part isn’t true. But it did feel great to make a decision like that for the benefit of my skin.

In summary, here are a couple of reasons I would now never use anything else on my armpits (especially now that we are making up and re-building the relationship we had before they turned on me):

No aluminium – Aluminium in spray deodorants and even some roll-ons have been linked with cancers and even bone disorders*

No Parabens or Talc – Parabens are a preservative used in cosmetics and in food and have been linked to Breast Cancer due to interrupting natural Estrogen levels. Talc has recently come back into the limelight due to its’ own cancer causing properties. No thanks!

It heals my skin – Two birds, one deodorant. I combat potentially smelly days and it heals and protects my skin from shaving damage, dryness and irritation thanks to the amazing properties of coconut oil, bees’ wax and Shea Butter (plus some essential oils such as May Chang and Tea Tree!)

It’s more affordable – Using it once, sometimes twice a day I would normally need to spend up to $8 on a can of deodorant each week. In three weeks I am only about half way through my $12 tin of Natural Deodorant

*Please always do your own research and consult a professional in any matters concerning your skin or health.

Who’s Jess?

Jess works with Roz at Coconatural from the Queensland office, and makes the most of her job by sampling every single product. Ok, so we have heard all about Coconut Oil and the many, many, many benefits for our skin, right? But do you actually know why it is so amazing for your body and do you really know the difference between the variations of coconut oil products? It’s OK if you don’t, because we are going to give you the low down. What does Virgin coconut oil actually mean? It’s more than likely what

W
e recently published this article in Natural Beauty Expert and there is a little special for readers at the end!

It’s more than likely what you have thought it might mean: untouched. Virgin coconut oil is extracted from the coconut without the use of heat, helping it to retain the plants original chemical composition. Being extracted from fresh coconuts and not subjected to heat treatments (even sunlight) makes virgin coconut oil a superior product due to the higher vitamin content, antioxidants (which you will find extremely low levels in ordinary coconut oil) and a much longer shelf life! Organic virgin coconut oil is even better: untouched, not added to. A truly pure gift from nature.

OK, so why is it so good for my skin?

You have probably heard a million things you can do with coconut oil – but allow us to focus on the beauty and body aspects (that list is long enough within itself!). Coconut oil mimics sebum, which is what our skin uses to protect our immune system. It also contains anti-fungal, anti-microbial and anti-viral properties which keeps our skin healthy and clean. A wonderful bonus to this is that coconut oil actually promotes collagen production. More collagen = less wrinkles (so yeah, it’s a brilliant anti-aging tool too!).

How can I introduce coconut oil to my beauty routine?

The obvious answer is to go out and buy some and get started! But there are a number of ways you can introduce it to your routine; after all, many of us already have a routine we feel works for us and it can be a big change to interrupt it! Start by removing your make up with organic coconut oil. Your skin will thank you for it by quickly becoming softer and clearer. Coconut oil is a great moisturiser (as we know) so by using it as a cleanser you are washing without depriving your skin of the necessary oils (and sebum) that it needs to remain fresh, healthy and silky soft. If you are used to harsh chemicals and soaps the concept might seem a little strange at first, but stick with it and over a week you will notice a difference in your face – even your glow will be brighter. When using coconut oil on your face before bedtime, be sure to massage it into your skin for a minute or two. This will also improve blood flow through your face (or the rest of your body!) and ensures the healing properties delve deep into your skins layers.

Ready to give coconut oil a go? Coconatural haspure cotton makeup wipeswhich are soaked in 100% organic virgin coconut oil. When you take them out of the tin they are hard, and as soon as you smooth them across your skin (they are eye friendly!) they melt and take the days grime and dirt with them.

Make that fragrance last!

Ahhhh.
